The djembes in the Meinl Travel Series are designed for use ‘on the road’. The shell of the Travel Djembes is made of plastic, which makes the instruments extremely light and durable.

By using plastic for the Travel Djembes, Meinl’s product developers were able to reduce the weight by a further 20 per cent compared to the fibreglass models. Despite this, the thin shell of the Travel djembe is very robust and hard-wearing thanks to the material used. It is also significantly easier to set into vibration and offers a very sensitive, direct response with a pronounced low-end range and assertive highs.

The Travel Djembes are available in two versions: either with a natural or a synthetic head. Both versions are tuned using a traditional string-tensioning system. A rubber ring on the base of the Travel Djembe protects the instrument from damage and ensures it stands securely without slipping.
