Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very nice and somewhat obscure microphone made by Calrad back in the 1950's & 60's that comes with an original cable in which to operate.

The Calrad DM-17 model microphone was very similar to the popular Electro Voice 664 model mic both in size and design and was Calrad's attempt to emulate that particular model. This had an all metal body with beautiful satin chrome finish.

This Japanese microphone has a dynamic element which works like new and has very strong output. The mic is omni-directional and set at high impedance giving you a clear, bight tone that is basically void of bass. This mic would be ideal for a HAM radio set up, harp mic or if you prefer an older "rockabilly" tone which was very common for those older songs back in the 1940's. 50's and 60's.

Because of the huge success of the Electro Voice 664 model Calrad tried to replicate the look with the DM-17 and if you didn't know any better you'd think that the DM-17 was also a cardioid / uni-directional mic. Calrad even painted the 3 slots on the head of the mic to make it look as though it's a cardioid mic but it was purely cosmetic. A bit of trickery on Calrad's part but they weren't the only manufacturer to do that over the decades. The mic is in fact omni-directional.

As you can see in the pictures provided the satin chrome body has extremely lite wear and this is one of the nicest examples I have ever seen. The mic is free of any deep scratches, pitting or dents. The on / off switch works just as it should and the joint mechanism works perfectly as well. The threads for both the cable and stand are excellent. The Calrad badge looks pretty nice as well.

The front grill is free of any tarnish or dents which is always a bonus.

This mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you choose to use though a desk stand is already provided.

You'll notice that there is an original 22 foot cable included so you'll have plenty of room to work with. The cable is free of any wear. it's soft, pliable and works perfectly with the standard male 1/4 inch end connector.

This mic is easily a 9 + on a scale of 1 - 10 cosmetically speaking. It will make a very fine display piece even if you choose not to use it.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

The mic will screw onto any stand you have and if you need a period stand I have plenty to choose from.

As with all my vintage microphones...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded.
