BUILD & DESIGN

The MV 692 is the evolution of the renowned MV 691, developed for professional studio and broadcast applications. Built around Gefell's modular capsule system, it accepts the full range of interchangeable small-diaphragm capsules including the M70, M71, M94 and UM70.

Its low-noise FET amplifier combined with a transformer-balanced output produces a clean, natural sound with subtle harmonic richness that has become a signature of classic Gefell microphones.

Each amplifier body features onboard -10 dB Pad and Low Cut switches for maximum recording flexibility.

Originally designed for proprietary 12V power supplies, this pair has been professionally converted by Siegfried Thiersch for reliable operation from standard 48V phantom power via XLR, making them completely plug-and-play in any modern studio.


M94 CAPSULE

The M94 is one of Gefell's finest small-diaphragm cardioid capsules, built around a precision nickel diaphragm. This traditional East German design produces exceptional transient response, natural midrange and a beautifully open top end.

Compared to the earlier M70, the M94 extends further into the high frequencies while maintaining the warm, effortless presentation that has made vintage Gefell microphones favourites in classical and acoustic recording.

The result is an extremely detailed yet never harsh microphone with excellent off-axis behaviour and superb stereo imaging.

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

The MV 692 combined with the M94 capsule delivers a remarkably natural and three-dimensional sound. Fast transient response captures every detail while the transformer-balanced output adds subtle warmth and depth. Cymbals remain smooth, strings sound open and realistic, and acoustic instruments retain their full body without becoming brittle.

Used as a stereo pair, these microphones create an exceptionally stable stereo image, making them ideal for XY, ORTF, NOS and spaced-pair techniques on drum overheads, piano, acoustic guitar, choirs, orchestras and ambient room recording.
