Default specification)

[Features]
When many people hear "Benge," the first thing that comes to mind is probably the representative American handmade trumpet. However, the company has also focused on the production of trombones, leaving behind models with a unique presence.

Model The 290 is a bass trombone that Benge has been producing since the 1980s. It features an inline double rotary valve, open wrap, 10-inch gold brass bell, and a 14.73mm slide bore—a remarkably ambitious design for its time. However, compared to modern bass trombones, it lacks the so-called ease of use of contemporary instruments. Rather than prioritizing light response and ease of handling in the low register, it's an instrument that requires careful breath control and a deep, resonant sound. On the other hand, it possesses a distinctive Benge charm in its sound. The gold brass bell produces a soft, full-bodied resonance, and the bass has a warm, enveloping quality suitable for American orchestral sounds. Rather than being flashy and forward, it provides a solid support within an ensemble, adding depth to the sound. The slide width is designed to be relatively narrow. Despite being a bass trombone, it has a relatively compact feel when held.

The manufacturer has already disappeared, and production has ceased. It is rarely seen on the market. Rather than those seeking the versatility of the latest models, this is a bass trombone that I would recommend to those looking for something different, and to those who are drawn to the rich sound of traditional American orchestras.
