2014 Goodsell Amplifiers 33 Custom Mk. 2 1x12 Tube Combo Amp

Up for sale, a 2014 Goodsell Amplifiers 33 Custom Mk. 2 1x12” combo amplifier in perfect working order, complete with a slip cover. Handcrafted by master amp guru Richard Goodsell in Atlanta, GA, this premium boutique amplifier delivers classic British-inspired tones in a streamlined, no-frills package, powered by a quartet of EL84 tubes. According to Goodsell himself, the 33 Custom is “[h]ands down the prettiest sounding amp I build. Period.” This combo takes the “simple theme” and all-tone-no-fuss approach of his perennially popular Super 17 and doubles the power for a roaring, versatile unit.

With just three controls on the panel (Gain, Tone, and Volume), there is a surprisingly wide array of sounds on tap: the amp delivers fat cleans at lower volumes with dense, textured harmonics, midrange richness and low end growl. Natural overdriven grit and British flavored sizzle and roar is on tap with the Volume pushed towards its limit, and the amp is ideally suited to diming out the controls and using one's guitar volume to coax out a range of dynamically responsive sounds. Additionally, the “Half” switch on the back allows the user to take the amp down to bedroom or studio-level volume without sacrificing tone.

The circuit is untouched, with the original transformers present as well, and the tube complement comprises a matched quartet of JJ EL84 power tubes with a JJ GZ34S rectifier. The original 12” speaker is also present, custom-assembled for Goodsell by Warehouse Guitar Speakers and engineered to match the natural sound of the circuit, rated at 16 ohms.

The cabinet is constructed from void-free 13-ply birch, and this particular 33 Custom boasts an cream/oxblood two-tone tolex wrap, accented by gold piping and a gold/maroon grillcloth. The chickenhead knobs and premium leather handle are present, and cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor scuffs and small rips in the tolex, primarily concentrated along the edges, and two dark stains on top where another amp was previously resting. The inside of the unit is signed by Richard Goodsell and dated 3-5-14.
