Framus 5/24 Barcelona 60'es

Introducing the latest addition to our workshop, a pure German nylon-string guitar from the 60s: the Framus 5/24 "Barcelona".

The ink on its label has faded, so it's no longer dated. Only "EX" remains, indicating it was intended for export, something they reserved for the very best of their production, those that stood out, distinguished by something extra from their workshop counterparts... The date has faded, judging by the tuners and flat-head screws, and the Bakelite truss rod cover, all dating from the first half of the 60s.

A classic among the Bavarian brand's high-end models of that era, featuring a marquetry rosette, arched back, truss rod, stainless steel frets, side dots, multi-ply top binding, and of course, all-solid wood construction.

4/4 size, Englemann spruce top, sapele mahogany back, sides, and neck, Rio rosewood fingerboard (not ebony, contrary to what the catalogs of the time indicated).

50mm nut width, zero fret, 650mm scale length, the neck has a fairly rounded D profile, almost a modern C shape, low action, 2.25mm at the octave. It's very easy to play and projects very well; that's where the arched back comes in.

The frets and fingerboard are like new, strung with Hannabach 28/43 strings. It's entirely original, including the tuners and truss rod cover, and is in excellent condition.

Aside from a slight nitrocellulose lacquer checking on the back and top, and a few minor nicks here and there, you'd think it just rolled off the Bubenreuth production line a few months ago, not 60 years ago.
