Description■ Mango Wood and Its Tonal Character

Mango may not be widely recognized as a traditional guitar tonewood, but it is surprisingly well suited for instrument building.

Its tonal qualities are somewhat similar to Korina or Mahogany, and it offers good workability. Mango is slightly softer than Mahogany or Korina, and this contributes to its distinctive sound.

Mahogany-bodied guitars typically emphasize the high-mid range, giving them their characteristic presence. Mango, however, slightly suppresses this range and instead produces a fuller, more pronounced low end. The high frequencies are controlled and not overly sharp, resulting in a well-balanced and easy-to-handle tone.

Aesthetically, while Mahogany and Korina often have tighter, more uniform grain patterns, Mango wood can exhibit striking and expressive grain variations. Combined with a natural or translucent finish, the result is a vibrant and visually appealing appearance.
