Mandolin / Mandole Attributed to Clément Eulry 1830's

Clément Eulry was a French luthier and bow maker active in the XIXᵉ century, mainly in Mirecourt, a mecca of French violin making. Although few details of his life are known, he is renowned for making bows and stringed instruments.

It's worth pointing out that the name “Clément Eulry” may be the result of a transcription error. Indeed, several variants such as “Eulry”, “Eury” and “Ury” appear in the archives, suggesting a possible confusion or spelling discrepancy.

Sources also diverge on his period of activity: some estimate that he practiced between 1820 and 1865, while others place his work between 1760 and 1835. This disparity could suggest confusion with another craftsman, or a transmission of know-how within the same family line.

Despite these uncertainties, instruments attributed to Clément Eulry remain prized by musicians and collectors alike, testifying to the excellence and refinement of the Mirecourt luthier tradition, as is the case for this mandolin certainly made around 1830.
