First introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird is one of the most distinctive and popular acoustic guitars ever made. The new Gibson Hummingbird Special is handcrafted in Bozeman, Montana, by Gibson’s experienced luthiers and offers players a U.S.-made Gibson Hummingbird at a very attractive price.

The Hummingbird Special features a traditional square-shoulder body with a solid mahogany back and sides. The solid Sitka spruce top is reinforced with our traditional scalloped X-bracing. The combination of these tonewoods produces a warm, balanced tone with excellent dynamics, making it perfect for any style of music. The “Concert Depth” body is slightly thinner than that of a Hummingbird Standard, resulting in a sleeker, tighter bass response that blends perfectly into the mix. It also makes the guitar easier to hold.

The Sipo mahogany neck is joined to the body via a dovetail joint and, as with all Gibson acoustic guitars, is secured with hide glue. The neck features a comfortable round profile, and the rosewood fingerboard has a 12-inch radius and is adorned with Perloid parallelogram inlays—a visual detail that makes the Hummingbird easily recognizable. The fingerboard has 20 standard frets and is adorned with Perloid parallelogram inlays.

The traditional rosewood “Belly Up” bridge features a TUSQ bridge insert, and the nut and bridge pins are also made of TUSQ. High-quality Grover Rotomatic tuning machines ensure rock-solid tuning stability. The pickguard features a simplified version of the world-famous Hummingbird graphics.

The Hummingbird Special is finished with a satin nitrocellulose lacquer. Left-handed versions are also available. It features an active L.R. Baggs Element Bronze piezo pickup under the bridge insert and a preamp with an easily accessible volume control mounted on the soundhole, making it ready for the stage and the studio the moment you take it out of the included high-quality softshell case.
