The Sontronics Mercury is a hand-built, large-diaphragm valve condenser microphone constructed in the UK from premium-grade components. At its heart sits a hand-selected European-made ECC81/12AT7 vacuum tube, delivering the analogue warmth and punch associated with classic tube designs. Its dual-capsule configuration offers a fully sweepable polar pattern ranging from omnidirectional through cardioid to figure-of-eight, making it adaptable across a wide range of recording applications - from vocals and acoustic instruments to room and ambient capture. The frequency response spans 20Hz to 20kHz, with an exceptionally low equivalent noise level of under 12dB (A-weighted), a maximum SPL handling of 125dB, an onboard -10dB pad, and a 75Hz low-cut filter. The mic connects to its included external 115/230V power supply unit via an 8-pin connector, with a standard 3-pin XLR output from the PSU - no phantom power required. The machined brass body and sub-1% tolerance component selection reflect the care put into each unit.
