*serviced pair* 1970 AKG D-222 "Sound Rocket" Two-Way Dynamic Microphones D222

Amazing AKG D222 two-way Dynamic Microphones. These mics have two capsules and a crossover network, virtually eliminating proximity effect. They've been called "the dynamic mic that thinks it's a condenser". They have full frequency range, and since the lower capsule points towards the XLR jack of the mic, they pick up in a very natural "ear-like" fashion.

AKG introduced the two way mics with the D-202 "sound rocket" in the mid 60's. The D-224 followed, these were introduced in 1970. This exceptionally clean pair is very rare to find.

These are internally cleaned, serviced and all four capsules sound clean and wonderful. Scroll the gallery images to see replaced internal foam.

These are excellent for stereo miking in a live or studio setting, on sources like percussion rigs, drum overheads, pianos, Leslie’s, acoustic instruments, STRINGS, or more. Billy Preston used the predecessor (D-202) as a vocal. They were famously the podium mics in British parliament until a few years ago. The proximity effect killer! So awesome for anything that moves in front of them (any kind of hand percussion for instance). And their frequency response feels so natural somehow, like a condenser in terms of full/quickness. hard to describe but feel free to request samples.

They ship with clips. One original clip available too (inquire if interested). They also ship in original case foam, though the cases themselves are not present (someone made a multi-mic case using many original cases' foam).
