Video: Spotting a Wandré Davoli Cobra | Funky Vintage

For lovers of eccentric guitars, perhaps none are more beloved nor eccentric than Wandrés.

Available in a wide variety of models and one-off builds, all of them have quirky, mod-era good looks and many have ahead-of-their-time features.

The instruments—sometimes branded Wandré, sometimes Davoli—were built by Antonio Vandrè (aka Wandre) Pioli in Italy from 1957 to about 1969.

It's not every day you get to see one in real life, let alone play it, so when we found a Wandré Davoli Cobra at Chicago's Rock N Roll Vintage shop, we knew we had to give it a whirl.

What better way to bring back our series Funky Vintage than with this funkiest of vintage guitars.

Now that the Wandré's got you in the mood for Italian guitars…
