This amp requires no pedals to get into high gain territory It's not for death metal but you can easily play docking rat Van Halen AC/DC in down with it. You have a high gain and low gain input You also have a bias control and external bias points on the back making it very easy to use You have a speak on style power cord very very nicely made two EL34s 312AX7s. This could very easily be the last Marshall or Marshall style amp you ever buy.
