JH Ealum is a custom builder from Florida who really knows his stuff!
Specs:
- The body is figured black limba.
- The neck is roasted birdseye maple with a zircote fretboard. The fretboard inlay looks to be the same wood as the neck (roasted birdseye maple). The nut width is 1 1/2” with a corresponding Jazz bass-ish profile. And, as you can see in the photos, the fret tangs are hidden. There are 24 frets and the construction allows for full unimpeded access to all 24 frets.
- The body and neck have an oil finish.
- The tuners, bridge and knobs are all Hipshot hardware and there is a D-tuner on the E string.
- The pickups are EMG P models. In terms of positioning, the neck pickup is about 1 cm closer to the bridge than on a Precision bass. The center point of the bridge pickup is about 3 mm closer to the bridge than a 70s position Jazz pickup.
- The original wiring was Volume - Volume - EMG BTC control (stacked bass and treble active EQ) powered by a 9 volt battery. However, I changed the writing to Master Volume - EMG Active Blend Control - EMG BTC. I also put in a harness to run everything at 18 volts. No soldering was required so if you wanT to run at 9 volts, you can disconnect the 18 volt harness and use only the dedicated battery compartment for the single battery.
The bass is in excellent condition overall. There is a little wear around the output jack, a bit of wear on the top around the knobs and some light dings on the treble side of the back of the neck starting around the 11th fret (I tried to take pictures of one or two, but it is very difficult).
Weighs and incredibly light 7.6 lbs on my bathroom scale and ships with an Audio Shark gig bag.
