Don't know the origins of these drums but they look like Native drums to me. The skin is animal of some kind, potentially goat; you can see some fur. Amazing piece of history and a fine looking display piece. They're also playable but if your friend gets carried away after a few beers and breaks a skin, that's on you!
The drums are tied together as 1 bundle. They appear to be tin cans wrapped in animal skin. They are very tightly bound together.
