The Tama STAR Walnut Snare

Walnut comes with its own distinct tonal character and, when this is used to shape a snare, you're getting immaculate focus and a natural feeling darkness with a perfect balanced between the high and low range, as well as the attack and sustain. The die-cast tension hoops play a big role in creating this balance and give rim-shots and clicks immense presence and, when the Star Walnut is tuned to a lower pitch, it delivers a satisfyingly fat clap while, tuned to a high pitch, the clap morphs into a characteristic crack.

A Lightweight Snare with Vintage Charm

The use of walnut also keeps the weight of this snare pretty low and gives it a range comparable to that of maple or bubinga snares, but with a decidedly more modest sonic personality, which could even be described as charmingly vintage.
