This is what I think is a rarely seen 1983 SG-75 AY from the Burny Artist series which was their unofficial Angus Young model, although I don't know for certain: I believe it is a SG-75-AY because of the tuners, the small fret edge binding, and the pickups, and I have seen at least one other like this online.

The SG-75 AY only came in Cherry in the catalogs, and the crown was placed in the centre of the headstock - but this guitar has the crown a little higher like the RSG-75 '69 model, but these sealed Schaller style tuners were what was used on the Angus model, while the RSG-75 '69 used Kluson style tuners. The tuners on this guitar are original to the guitar, and there's no signs of modification.

The SG-75 AY model was originally released around 1982/1983, with the normal SG trapezoid inlays like this one, but was then later updated in 1984 to match Angus's SG with the lightning bolt inlays. Both versions are incredibly rare to see, and I'm not sure how many were built and then how many of those have survived the last 40-ish years.

What's crazy about this, is that Burny released their Angus Young model before Gibson did - as far as I can tell. Greco also made an Angus Young model later on.

This particular SG was made in the famous Kasuga factory, which was the factory responsible for Heerby brand guitars, along with early Navigators. You can see the similarities in the control cavity.

Sine there's no serial number on this (on the back of the headstock, bottom of the fretboard, OR inside the bridge pickup cavity) I am dating it based on the pot codes, which are all original and all have a date stamp of 39 which is September 1983, so this guitar was either a later 1983 model, or possibly an early 1984 model.

The finish on this guitar is gloss black lacquer, but it looks like it was originally cherry or wine red underneath. To me this doesn't look like a refinish - if it was, it was done exceptionally well, with no shortcuts, since inside all cavities, all holes is black. The original finish can be seen where there are chips in the black finish, like on the bottom edge of the body, the top of the headstock, underneath the high E side tailpiece stud, and inside the control cavity. The finish melts when it comes into contact with acetone - I tested it inside the neck pickup cavity. So it appears that this is a lacquer based finish. It does feel different than typical poly finish in the hands as well.

This guitar arrived to me missing the toggle switch ring (poker chip), mismatched knobs, and a non original bridge. I replaced the bridge with a similar era Japanese made 8107 bridge which is likely what was originally used on this model, so the string spacing and radius match. I placed a black toggle switch ring on it, although this one may have come with a cream ring like Angus - although I have seen at least 2 other SG-75 AY come with black rings - I didn't remove the adhesive backing on this ring so if you wanted to replaced it with a cream one it would be easy to do. The switch tip might have originally been cream as well, but it arrived to me with this black one in place, so I left it. And all the knobs have been replaced with matching black metric speed knobs from Japan, like the originals.

Other than those items, everything else on this guitar appears to be original, and this guitar is in good player grade condition.

This SG has been played, and has multiple dings and chips in the finish - mainly across the sides and back of the body, tip of the headstock, along with typical fine scratches, and swirling in the black finish (gloss black is almost always the hardest colour to keep looking new) - to me that just adds to the mojo. This is no Murphy lab - it's the real deal, and has the right amount of mojo without being abused.

Like many SG's, the heel joint has a superficial crack in the finish on the high E side and back of the heel, but not on the low E side - there is no movement in this crack when pressure is applied to the neck, so it is simply only in the finish or top coat.

This Burny is made with what appears to be a 1 piece mahogany neck mated to possible a 1 piece mahogany body - I can't tell for certain under the black finish, but usually if you catch the light right you can see seams - I can't on this one.

The neck itself has a thin carve to it - what I would expect from an SG, starting out at 21.4mm thick at the 1st fret and making its way up to 22.9mm at the 12th fret, but the nut is narrow at 40.4mm wide, just like Angus's main SG was during this era. Pair the narrow nut with a thin carve neck makes it really comfortable and fast to play - if you like thin and narrow necks. This one also features a incredibly beautiful and medium dark brown rosewood fretboard that has a lovely grain all the way up the board, along with acrylic pearloid trapezoid inlays. What's also rare is this model has very small fret edge binding - which is one of the only Burny SG models to have this.

The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, and there is some play wear on frets 1-12 mainly on the plains strings, but nothing that causes the strings to get stuck or buzz. The frets have been cleaned and polished, the fretboard cleaned and oiled, and it plays well up and down the entire neck.

The Original nickel covered humbuckers, which I think might be L8000's, sound fantastic - they can cover almost any genre well. There is a load of low end in this guitar, but still present mids and high end. They can clean up when you roll off the volume, but can easily push your amp into break up - just like Angus does. I removed the cover on the neck pickup to see the bobbins and magnet, and it is double black bobbins, with a polish Alnico magnet. I didn't check the bridge, but I assume it's the same.

The plastics are all in tact, with some typical pick marks on the pickguard and typical swirling on all of the plastics.

All the guitars I sell, I test, thoroughly clean, and setup completely before I list them. Anything that is missing, damaged, or non original is mentioned in the listing.

I setup all my Gibson style guitars to Gibson factory specs - including neck relief, action, pickup height, intonation, and tailpiece height. So this guitar will be ready to play out of the box (after you tune it up - I ship my guitars with the strings loosened).

Comes with a new quality made Profile G05TX gig bag.

Overall, this is an incredibly rare SG from Japan that is built well, plays great, and sounds awesome.

This is the perfect guitar to add to your collection if you're an Angus Young or AC/DC fan - grab it today!

CONDITION ------------

Overall it's in very good player grade shape.

I've tried to capture all of the flaws in the photos and in the description.

The knobs, toggle switch cover, and bridge are non original - the switch tip may not be original.

Like many SG's, the heel joint has a superficial crack in the finish on the high E and back of the guitar but not on the low E side - there is no movement in this crack when pressure is applied to the neck, so it is simply only in the finish or top coat.

Over the entire body of the guitar, top, back, sides, neck and headstock, there are some dings, dents, scratches, chips, and swirling, mostly around the sides and back of the body. There is some larger chips in the finish on the bottom edge of the guitar, and on the top of the headstock.

All of the black plastics have typical scratches and swirling on them.

The nickel hardware, bridge, tailpiece, pickup covers and pole pieces, chrome tuners, and hardware all have some form of corrosion, pitting, scratches, and rust, although they all have a nice and consistent patina to them, and all have been cleaned and polished so they feel smooth to the touch - what you see is the patina in the metal.

All of the unbranded chrome Schaller style tuners are straight and work properly.

Around the strap buttons there's some minor strap marks/swirling.

The 22 medium jumbo frets have been played, and there is some play wear on frets 1-12 mainly on the plain strings, but nothing that causes the strings to get stuck or buzz. The frets have been cleaned and polished, the fretboard cleaned and oiled, and it plays well up and down the entire neck.
