Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a 1970's era Shure Brothers 588SB (same as the PE-588) Dynamic cardioid microphone set at Low impedance giving this mic a nice, smooth warm tone that can compete with most quality mics of today. This microphone is great for vocals / general broadcasting and singing as it was intended. This 588SB has a strong, clear signal despite being over 40 + years old and comes with the mic clip, cable and mic pouch shown.
Pic # 2 is from an older Shure advertisement showing the mics basic specs.
Pic # 3 is of the actual Shure 588SA or SB I sold a couple years ago. That mic was used several times on the set of Joker that came out in the movies theaters. It was used in the stand up comedy club throughout several times during the movie.
This 588 came in both the SB and SA model. The SB model was the factory set low impedance version while the SA was the factory set high impedance version. The SA had less bass and was higher pitched which is actually quite good if you have a very deep voice like mine. You actually want less bass if that's the case. The SA version could be used as a harp mic as well.
The original satin chrome finish on this example shows very lite signs of wear and has a gorgeous luster. Just a scratch at the bottom of the mic where the cable plugs in as seen in pic # 13. The Shure logo that encircles the bottom of the globe looks very nice as well.
A original foam insert was replaced inside the globe and looks very nice helping with the overall characteristics. The chrome globe looks great with zero dents, odors or tarnish. These early 60's and 70's era dynamic cardioid mics are often better than the mics being made today because of the higher quality control and materials used. It's pretty hard to beat the sound of these Shure microphones.
The on / off switch slides smooth and works perfectly with zero issues.
The 588SB comes with an older replica Shure mic clip that works very well for this mic. The clip will screw onto any desk or floor stand and has a wide degree of tilt up and down.
The original cable is included being appx 16 feet in length. it's in incredible condition being soft, pliable and free of damage. It has the two quality Switchcraft XLR end connectors. Plenty of length to work with as well.
Also included is the newer Shure mic pouch in which to store the mic while not in actual use. It's vinyl and in perfect condition. Keeps the mic from getting pitted or scratched. A great package deal all around.
MICROPHONE STAND IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
Overall I would rate this mic a conservative 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department but I would recommend actually using this piece rather than for display. She's got plenty of life left in her. Made right here in America and built to last!
