You may not know us here at Champion City Effects. We are a relatively new boutique effects pedal company that builds various pedals by hand from start to finish. No hand propagated PCB's here, everything is done start to finish on stripboard. We build high quality pedals, some of which are clones, other are modified versions of various pedals. Each pedal is handmade to order, so even though it says we have 10 in stock, we will build yours specifically for you when you order.
The Mysterious Mammal Fuzz was designed in tandem with the legendary bassist Matt Lynch from the band Snail to be the bass fuzz pedal he's dreamed of for over 20 years. Matt has always loved his vintage Dunlop Silicon Fuzz Face, but hated the low end loss and loss of articulation in his playing. After discussing his needs and desires I set out to design a pedal that would meet his needs, and create a pedal we decided to name after Matt's recording studio Mysterious Mammal in California.
The Mysterious Mammal Fuzz isn't a clone of the Silicon Fuzz Faces that are a dime a dozen. It takes the classic BC108 Fuzz Face and turns it into a highly versatile fuzz pedal that bassists, guitarists, keyboardists, and even vocalists alike will love. We've added a low cut control that affects the output of the fuzz, so you can control the amount of low end while being able to keep the classic Fuzz Face feel and sound, just with as much or little wooliness as your heart desires. There's also an added blend control that allows you to add and boost your clean tone to the output signal. Unlike many blends that take away from the effect to add your clean signal, both the fuzz circuit and the clean circuit will go beyond unity on their own and are capable of a huge boost when summed together at the output. Combined with the low cut, you can get a huge bottom end that is dynamic from the clean while having a nasty fuzz on the midrange and highs. Best of all the Mysterious Mammal Fuzz plays well with other pedals, even buffers, which is unheard of for a fuzz face!!!
The Mysterious Mammal Fuzz is Matt Lynch's Signature pedal, and is also being used by Legendary Snail guitarist Mark Johnson.
