The Gibson mandolin has a pending patent 1898 with a picture of Orville on it. Number 6791 on the label inside. I think the rather low number is an indication of its age. The unique inlay looks like a leaf. I have seen one described as a butterfly and one as a pineapple, but didn’t see a photo of them. So, you can see it here on this one. It is about 25” long and 15” wide. There are a few scratches, no broken wood or signs of repairs. The case is original. It’s been with the present owner 31 years. A musician.
