**HOLD**There was a time, long, long ago, when guitar building was an art. Acoustics and wood and construction technique mattered and electronics didn't. A big archtop had to cut through the mix with no help from technology. This was 1952 and there was a competition between the big builders to make the biggest, loudest archtop they could. Epiphone had the
Emperor at 18.5" and Stromberg had its 19" "mammoth". They all wanted to compete with the venerable Super 400 made by Gibson from 1934 until today. There are lots of versions, electric, acoustic, cutaway and non but this is the classic. Sunburst non electric and cutaway. Condition is somewhere between stunning and unbelievable. I would have suspected a refinish except that there is no fret wear (original frets) and no player wear anywhere. It just didn't get played much. I could call this near mint if not for three small screw holes under the fingerboard from a DeArmond neck mount pickup and a properly plugged jack hole that is nearly invisible. There is a cleated (by Gruhn's) vertical crack in the top and a repro pick guard. The original guards tended to disintegrate. Tuners are mid 50's Sealfasts with metal buttons. The originals would have been the same only with plastic buttons. The case is not original but I'm looking for one. I would reinstall a DeArmond and play it as an electric. I have a 1950 Rhythm Chief that I will sell separately. - See more at:
