The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi 2 is a resurrected chapter of fuzz history, bringing a long-lost late-’70s dual op-amp Big Muff design into the modern era. Unearthed from the original hand-drawn schematics of EHX co-creator Bob Myer, this circuit offers a familiar Big Muff foundation with a distinct twist in feel and response.
Compared to a classic Big Muff Pi, the Pi 2 delivers a slightly more dynamic and raw fuzz character, with a crisp top end, powerful low-frequency punch, and less refined clipping that gives it a lively, aggressive edge. It retains the iconic singing sustain and gain saturation Muff players expect, while adding a unique texture that stands apart from other variants in the lineage.
