In the 1970s, Rikhi Ram, founded in 1920 by Pandit Rikhi Ram in Lahore and then relocated to New Delhi after the partition of India, established itself as a leading name in Indian instrument making.

Under the direction of Bishan Dass Sharma, the workshop collaborated with the greatest masters of classical music, including Pandit Ravi Shankar, who helped perfect the brand's instruments.

This collaboration elevated Rikhi Ram to the rank of master luthier, a symbol of excellent craftsmanship and a constant quest for sonic perfection.

It was in this spirit of innovation that, in the mid-1970s, a compact and revolutionary tampura was born, designed to offer the depth of a large male tampura in a lighter and more portable format.

Featuring a special jivari bridge without metal wires and spun strings, it produces a deep, vibrant sound of exceptional clarity.

Handcrafted in New Delhi from carefully selected fine woods, this tampura combines portability, acoustic power, and artisanal elegance, offering a harmonious balance of great finesse.
