he CA-99 has become Kawai’s most popular model among piano dealers and end-users. Many have remarked that it is the best digital piano they’ve ever played.
The foundation of the CA-99 is the same as in every Kawai instrument: ultra-responsive touch and dynamic, colourful tone.
Kawai’s exclusive ‘Grand Feel III’ wooden key action provides authentic grand piano touch. The ivory-touch surfaces on the white keys and ebony-touch surfaces on the black keys give pianists the familiar tactile feel of a vintage concert grand. The extended, fully wooden keys provide the weighted, counterbalanced movement pianists would expect in a fine grand piano.
With the flagship, Shigeru Kawai concert grand piano as its tonal foundation, the CA-99 uses Kawai’s proprietary ‘SK-EX rendering’ multi-channel sound engine to provide the entire palette of tonal colours musicians demand in a world-class grand.
Kawai’s exclusive ‘twin drive’ soundboard speaker system provides a warm full-spectrum tone by utilizing transducers mounted to a real wooden soundboard. Supplementing the soundboard speaker system is a newly designed six-speaker sound system with 360-degree diffusers to project the sound in all directions.
The CA-99 utilizes a full-colour touch screen to access the many features. With 88 sounds, metronome, 100 rhythm patterns, MP3 and WAV recording and more, the CA-99 offers versatility to appeal to musicians of any level. The ‘Virtual Technician’feature allows the pianist to adjust 21 different parameters such as tone, damper resonance and much more. With Bluetooth audio and MIDI, the piano wirelessly connects to smart devices for a variety of creative and educational uses. Kawai’s ‘PianoRemote’ app for iOS and Android allows access to the piano’s features from a phone, tablet or other devices for even more versatility.Embracing many of the long-established principles associated with an acoustic piano, the Grand Feel III keyboard action utilized by the CA99 combines realistic materials, motion, and mechanism to recreate the exceptional touch of the finest concert grand pianos.
All eighty-eight black and white keys are crafted entirely from long pieces of wood, with finely textured ivory and ebony-like surfaces applied to absorb moisture and assist control. Each wooden key pivots smoothly on a balance pin – the ends rising and falling to replicate the familiar ‘seesaw’ motion of an acoustic piano action. When pressed, the back of the key lifts, triggering a grade-weighted hammer to strike a pressure switch. The amount of force applied to this switch is then measured, and the corresponding note played with authentic tonal character and volume.
