About this model

The Quad 405-2 is a stereo power amplifier built around Quad's patented Current Dumping technology, a distinctive architecture that combines a low-powered Class A amplifier - handling fine sonic detail - with a high-powered Class B circuit that supplies the muscle. The result is 100 watts per channel into 8Ω, with the amplifier able to drive loads from 4Ω to 16Ω. A carefully designed current control circuit limits peak output to 8.5A and short-circuit current to 3.1A, protecting both transistors and connected speakers without the abruptness of conventional limiting. Input sensitivity is 0.5V for full output, and the circuit uses a single op-amp for low-distortion gain and DC correction. Compact board-mounted construction with minimal internal wiring keeps the signal path clean and contributes to the 405-2's well-documented reliability and ease of servicing.
