Up for grabs is a used BOSS OD-2 TURBO OverDrive overdrive / distortion effect pedal. Some people might feel that it has more OR less than light average wear. Black Label TAIWAN. From October 1989. It kind of has a cool relic'ed look to it from use and from age.

Sorry NO box, NO paperwork, and NO battery.

Here is a link for the Owners Manual:

  • roland.com/assets/media/pdf/OD-2_OM.pdf

Black battery clip.

It has the small label in the battery compartment with the serial number and this label says Products of Roland JAPAN."  The original white color of the paper of this label is NOW aged (yellowed), it has has discoloration, and it has a few tiny gray surface markings.

All Original - with the exception that

  • 1) the grommet (the black rubber piece in the front screw hole) was replaced with a new genuine Boss grommet. This was done because the original grommet had several cracks. Tthe grommet with cracks is NOT included (unless you want it - if you're going for that relic'ed look - PLEASE MESSAGE ME if you also want the cracked grommet).
  • 2) The nuts and washers for the jacks were rusty so I put cleaer ones on . But I can include the original ones -- (if you're gong for that really relic-ed look -- PLEASE MESSAGE ME if you want the rusty nuts and washers).

This model pedal is no longer made. Great for collectors and / or for someone looking to buy this pedal to use.  Also great to give to someone as a gift!!

From April 1989-- according to the StompBoxZone (BOSS serial number decoder) website:

  • stompboxzone.com/decoder/
  • Entered Serial:   BA75793  -- Your pedal was made in Oct, 1989 (October 1989)

The pedal was tested and works fine (as it is designed to work).

Written detail abotu the cosmetic condition of this pedal are after the info about the LED light and how it light up when used with a battery, how it lights up when used with a 9V adapter, how it lights up when used with a 12V apapter, and how it lights up with a 9V adapter + daisy chain.

  • Adapters and daisy chain NOT included.

NOTE: When this pedal is used with a 9 volt power supply  - the LED light lights up very dim (lights up faintly).  Lights up fine when used with a battery.

NOTE:  since this pedal was originally designed to be used with a Boss ACA power supply (whuch is 12V) - when you use a "regular 9v negative tip power supply and only power this one pedal - the pedal works, but the light does not light up or it lights up faintly (lights up dim).  When I powered it up with a 9V power supply -- it lit up dim (lit up faintly). There is nothing wrong with the pedal.  But when Powering ACA pedals with a PSA power supply or something similar (a Boss PSA power supply is 9V, negative center, barrel end, about 500 mA) with a daisy chain it will light up bright. READ INFO BELOW.

  • If / when a 12 volt negative tip power supply is used - then the light will light up bright (normal).

** As I stated above - it lights up fine when used with a battery (unless the battery is running out of juice) **

According to Roland / Boss:  "Powering ACA pedals with a PSA power supply":

  • Powering the older pedals designed for 12V DC input with either a newer ACA or PSA adapter will not work very well. The voltage drop over the resistor and diode will prevent the pedal from getting enough power and its LED will usually only glow faintly.
  • The SOLUTION is to use a daisy chain and plug in another pedal designed for the newer ACA or PSA adapter. The lead between the two pedals will short the resistor diode pair and the pedal will receive full power."

Using REVERB's condition criteria - I put it's condition as Good (which I feel is accurate). But some people might feel that it's in between Good and Fair shape.

Each side of the pedal's CASING has MANY visible cosmetic imperfections: many nicks (various sizes), several chips (various sizes), some light & very light hair-line surface scratches, a few deeper scratches, some tiny & very small areas where there is pitting (unevenness) in and under the finish.

  • Some of the black finish on the heads of the screws have faded off.
  • The nuts and washers of the jacks are fine - just a few tiny nicks. The original ones had a lot of rust / discoloration - so I put cleaner nuts/ washers on. But I can include the original (rusty) ones -- (if you're gong for that really relic-ed look) - PLEASE MESSAGE ME if you want them .
  • The black rubber O ring (grommet) in the front center hole is fine. The original grommet had several cracks / and kind of broken - so I put a new one on (original Boss part). Please message me if you also want the gromemt with the cracks.
  • The rubber on the bottom has visible wear from age and use: some surface scuffs, some wear around the edges, some surface discoloration, and it has hardened from age & use.
  • In general - the bottom label is mostly fine. But it is not 100 % on flat - it has many small visible bit not too serious air bubble which makes the label look slightly "bumpy" from the small air bubbles (this might matter to some people - and other people might not even care about this or notice this). And the center area has a long vertical not too light / not to deep curved line impression.
  • The front black thumb screw has some light surface scuffs and some light tiny nicks.
  • The rubber on the top has hardened from age & use The outer areas / edges have some wear and the top areas of the BOSS logo have some wear. Otherwise it is clean.
  • The small silver sticker that says USE BOSS ACA ADAPTOR ONLY and has the symbols for negative center has a couple of nicks and some wear.
  • The pedal has all of the knobs. The top areas have some visible imperfections: tiny & very small nicks and some short scratches. And the top outer edges have some tiny / very small nicks. And the sides of the knobs has some light hair-line scratches.
  • The black metal plate where the controls are has a couple of tiny & very small ding / nickss and a few very light hair-line scratches. And it has some cloudy & shiny surface spots.
  • The inside of the pedal / the circuit board are clean.

The circuit board has an internal trimmer. SEE pictures # 4 and # 5 (picture # 5 has an arrow pointing to it). I never adjust it and personally I do not feel that you wil need to adjust it. It is the type of internal trimmer that most likely has a sweet spot and it is factory set at the sweet spot. Most likely It is NOT the type or internal trimmer that has a great range for makign adjustments and it is really not meant to people to mess with. I am only mentioning that it has this internal trimmer because I noticed it when I opened the pedal to take the pictures of the inside of the pedal.

  •  If you do want to see if you can add more or less of the effect - you can adjust this internal trimmer. But take a picture or refer to my picture so you know where it is at before you move it (in case you want to reposition it back to the same spot). The it a value marking on the side - which you can use as a guide as to where to reposition it.
  • And to move it - you use a flat precision screwdriver (or something similar) and place the tip of the tool in the top middle area (hole) and carefully rotate to the left until it stops or until you get it to where you like the effect. // or to the right until it stop or until you get it where you like the effects. NOTE: When it stops - stop - and rotate in the other direction.

The controls are: LEVEL, TONE, DRIVE, TURBO (OFF / ON)

The jacks are: Input, Output, and Power.

  • the power jack sticker says ... ACA ...which is 12V.   Please read / refer to the information in the description above about how the LED lights up (when this pedal is used with a battery, with a 9v adapter, with a 12v adapter, and when it is used with a 9v adapter + daisy chain).

I took pictures of all sides of this pedal, a few of areas of interest / of concern, and some of the inside of the pedal.

Feel free to ask for more pictures.

NOTE:   There may be some imperfections that I overlooked. There are a couple of imperfections that do not show up in the pictures but are visible in person. And there are some imperfections (glares, reflections, shadows,  and / or dust specks) that show up in the pictures that are not that visible in person.

the following is information on this model pedal:

Boss OD-2 TURBO OverDrive

The OD-2 was created as a replacement for the OD-1 in the mid 1980s. The OD-1 was already legendary so following up to it was in impossible task. The design goal was to create a pedal with two modes. In mode one its sound should be similar to the OD-1 but in the turbo mode it should have more distortion and more gain. A tone control is included to give the user better control over the sound. The OD-2 is built using only discrete components (no integrated circuits).

The OD-2 production moved from Japan to Taiwan late 1988. After the production was discontinued, 1994, the pedal continued its life as the slightly modified OD-2R for another 4 years.
