The circuit is entirely point-to-point, designed to maximize dynamic response, headroom, and interaction with the musician’s touch.The preamp section uses 12AX7 and 12DW7 tubes, while rectification is handled by a GZ34/5Y3 tube, contributing to a resilient response (sag) and natural compression under load.Tone control is implemented via a 3-position selector switch that modifies the circuit’s voicing, directly interacting with gain and frequency response. Hi/Lo inputs are provided to optimize matching with different pickup output levels.The spring reverb is driven by a dedicated tube circuit, offering a more organic response compared to classic solid-state circuits. The tremolo is also fully tube-driven, with deep and progressive modulation, controllable via footswitch.Tone-wise, the MOD 84 sits between American and British voicings: tight lows, articulate mids, and extended highs with the pronounced “chime” typical of EL84s.
