We started our Drums Through the Decades series with the drum sounds of the early 20th century to the 1950s, unpacked all of changes and advancements of the 1960s, and now it's time to launch into the rock 'n' roll 1970s.

If the 1960s were transformative, the 1970s turned things up to 11. Recording leapt forward from monophonic drums to stereophonic, and the addition of close-mic'ing kits meant drum tracks got bigger and became more impactful and important to every record's mixed.

Tens of thousands of the best drum recordings of all time were captured in this decade, but today we're zeroing in on just a couple: "Fame" by David Bowie and "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin.

Check out the full video above to see how Noam and Jessica recreated those sounds in the studio today. If you like what you hear, you can also download a free sample pack of the drum sounds Noam and Jessica created here, or by clicking the listing card above.
