Video: The Black Angels' Christian Bland & His Psych Rock Guitar Collection

We here at Reverb had the chance to sit down with Christian Bland of psychedelic rock band The Black Angels to check out some of his go-to stage gear, from his pedalboard to his arsenal of guitars.

While every band has their own method for transferring their studio sound to the stage, Bland makes sure that he can truly replicate each song exactly as it sounds recorded by building a pedalboard of effects that he used while in the studio. Some of the highlights from his board include: a Russian Big Muff, Dr. Robert, Turbo Tube Screamer, Echorec-inspired Boonar, and more.

Bland chooses to run everything through a Fender Twin Reverb because of its clean sound and how well it handles pedals. The right guitar to play these pedals through, on the other hand, is just as important to nailing the right sound as the pedal itself. The Russian Big Muff, for example, is a pedal he only likes playing if it's through his Rickenbacker 345. "If I use a Fender Jaguar or something with [the Big Muff], I don't like it—it sounds too modern to me."

Be sure to check out the full video above to hear more about the excellent pedals Bland has on his board and the guitars he regularly turns to on stage.
