Video: Experimenting With Pedal Chain Order

When it comes to the order of pedals, there are some conventional best-practices, but there are many creative combinations you can explore. And it's as easy as swapping around the effects you already have on your pedalboard.

In our video above, Andy Martin starts with a standard order: compressor to drive, drive to chorus, chorus to reverb. From there, he moves pedals in and out and around, for a variety of new tones.

The different orders include:

  • Compressor-Drive-Chorus-Reverb / Chorus-Reverb-Drive-Compressor
  • Drive-Phaser / Phaser-Drive
  • Distortion-Flanger / Flanger-Distortion
  • Reverb-Delay / Delay-Reverb
  • Fuzz-Buffer / Buffer-Fuzz
  • Delay-EQ-Tremolo / EQ-Tremolo-Delay

You can find the exact pedals that Andy used below. But no matter what pedals you have available, you should swap them around just to see what happens.
