Shoegaze and its related music styles are thought of as effect-heavy genres. It takes some added spice to create those heavily layered walls of modulated sound—but that doesn't mean you have to spend all your savings on pedals to get there.

In the video above, we tasked Andy Martin with creating a shoegaze-specific pedalboard with just $250. And, spoiler alert, he did it. By making some conscientious decisions about what he really needed for the sounds he wanted and considering how to get the most out of every effect, Andy put together a board of just five mighty pedals that we think successfully steals the shoegaze sound.
