PRS' Massive 2023 Lineup: Modern Eagle V, McCarty SEs & More

PRS has unveiled a ton of new gear for 2023, and what a lineup it's shaping up to be.

The Maryland-based manufacturer is adding previously unavailable models to its affordable SE line, putting a beautiful Private Stock creation into regular production, reviving its Sonzera 20 combo amp, and more.

Modern Eagle V

This is a PRS Modern Eagle V.

The 22-fret Modern Eagle V began as a Private Stock-only guitar. Now available as part of the regular Core production, it features high-quality appointments—like its gorgeous maple top and mahogany neck and back— that players have come to expect from the PRS custom shop. It's also capable of a staggering 17 different pickup configurations, courtesy of its five-coil hum/single/hum pickup layout, a push/pull tone knob, and a mini toggle that turns its humbuckers into single-coils.

SE McCarty 594

This is a PRS SE McCarty 594.

Although the McCarty-like SE Hollowbody was previously available in their SE line, these new McCarty SEs—the above 594, alongside the 594 Singlecut and Singlecut standards below—are the first time that authentic McCartys have been available in the more affordable series. Built as tributes named after Paul Reed Smith's guitar-building mentor and former president of Gibson's golden age, Ted McCarty, these guitars have long been the go-to for PRS players. Now, they're available for lower prices than ever before.

The 594 Singlecut is virtually identical to its standard sister guitar, with the exception of the latter guitar being all-mahogany, down to the body and neck. Both guitars feature the same hardware and electronics.

SE DGT David Grissom Tremolo

This is a PRS SE DGT David Grissom Tremolo.

First introduced in 2007, the popular 22-fret and 25" scale David Grissom signature model, made in collaboration with the John Mellencamp-affiliated guitarist, marks yet another new addition to the SE series. It's built on the McCarty platform with vintage-voiced humbuckers, a tremolo arm, and push/pull tone control to allow its humbuckers to tap into a single-coil sound.

10th Anniversary S2 Custom 24

This is a PRS 10th Anniversary S2 Custom 24.

This limited-edition model marks 10 years since the first S2 Series guitars were released in 2013—a line that's built in the US but less expensive than other similar Core models.

This is a PRS 10th Anniversary S2 McCarty 594.

The above S2 Custom 24 and this S2 McCarty 594 are elevated takes on the S2s, with special appointments such as a Cuban mahogany neck, mother-of-pearl bird inlays, and American–made PRS 85/15 pickups.

More New Artist Signature Models

This is a PRS Dustie Waring Signature.

There are a number of new SE artist signatures being offered, including two models from Periphery's Mark Holcomb, one from The Fairwell frontman Zach Myers, and the above guitar from Between the Buried and Me's Dustie Waring. The latter guitar is built on PRS' CE 24 platform, boasts a mahogany body and a maple top, neck, and fretboard—it also features black bird inlays and a hardtail bridge.

Revived Sonzera 20 Combo Amp

This is a PRS Revived Sonzera 20 Combo Amp.

Shortly after being discontinued in 2020, this versatile Fender Twin-style 20-watt combo amp is back in production. Its clean channel delivers full, three-dimensional tones sculpted straight out of American-made amps from the 1960s and 70s, while the lead channel runs the range between a boosted clean and a heavy distortion.
