Introducing the New Ernie Ball Music Man Cutlass and Stingray Guitars

No one can argue with the classic cool of a vintage Pontiac GTO or Ford Mustang. The trouble comes into play when you get under the hood and come face to face with the upkeep of a product manufactured 30 or 40 years ago. The same rings true in guitars: erratic electronics, bulky bodies and the wear of decades can override the appeal of a classic instrument with the reality of maintenance.

Music Man’s new Modern Classic Series marries the original aesthetic vision of Leo Fender when he created the original company with the quality craftsmanship synonymous with the current company under Ernie Ball. Previously only produced as basses, guitar renditions of the Cutlass and Stingray lead the charge for this new line. While each are tonally distinctive, both are marked by streamlined ergonomic bodies, lightweight vintage spec electronics, and Music Man’s Silent Circuit technology for consistent output and zero hum at any volume.

The Cutlass sports three ‘60s single-coil staggered pole pickups custom-made exclusively for Music Man. Designed to emulate the feel of mid ‘60s pickups, the plain enamel wiring and Alnico magnets come together for some of the most authentic vintage Strat tones on the market. The model is rounded off with a lightweight alder body, “V” to “C” shape neck profile, and color options in Black, Antique Ivory, Vintage Sunburst, and Vintage Turquoise.

The Stingray brings more muscle to the table with two custom-wound passive Alnico V humbuckers, also produced exclusively for Music Man. The result is a thick body with a spry character for a big, bright presence that’s immediately felt. The Stingray is further complemented by a svelte African mahogany body, thick 10” neck, and color options in Black, Antique Ivory, Vintage Sunburst, and Chili Red.
