This weekend's Knobcon synth convention was held outside of Chicago, and we at Reverb were there to take in the new and classic modules, keyboards, and software programs on display. This year's fest was the seventh annual for the ever-growing event and featured Eurorack builders like 1010 Music and Division 6, as well as modules, machines, and keyboards from JoMox, Waldorf, Roland, Korg, and many more.
Highlights included an impressive array of video synth modules from LZX Industries and video synth software from Lumen, Radikal Technologies' incredible-sounding Swarm Oscillator and Effexx Multi FX Processor, and, for this writer, Roger Linn playing pedal steel licks on his Linnstrument.
Outside of the booths, Knobcon offered attendees a series of lectures and demonstrations, opportunities to build their own modules, and numerous performances and jams. Two education-focused exhibitors, Juanito Moore's Modular for the Masses synth rig—which he built by hand in recycled tin can chassis—and STEM Modular's curricula-based modules were also particularly cool to see.Check out the gallery below for some more of our favorites from the convention room floor.
