The E-mu Proteus/1 Pop/Rock is a 1U rack-mount ROMpler module built around 16-bit samples drawn from E-mu's Emulator III library, focused on pop and rock-oriented sounds. It delivers 32-voice polyphony and is fully 16-part multi-timbral, making it capable of running a complete arrangement across all MIDI channels simultaneously. Its 4MB ROM holds 192 presets — 128 fixed ROM patches plus 64 user-editable RAM slots — and the architecture is expandable to 8MB via the XR upgrade. Six individual polyphonic submix outputs allow flexible routing into a mixing desk or audio interface, and the three MIDI ports (In, Out, Thru) cover straightforward integration into any studio or live rig. There are no built-in effects or filters, so the module is designed to feed into external processing rather than stand alone.
