🎻 A Fine Hungarian Double Bass by P. Horváth Gyula
Budapest, 1954
Description
This distinguished mid-20th-century Hungarian double bass is offered from a private collection. Crafted in Budapest in 1954 by P. Horváth Gyula, a respected maker and restorer, the instrument represents the strong Central European tradition of hand-built bass making.
The bass is finished in a traditional oil–spirit varnish, characteristic of the period. The varnish has matured attractively, displaying a natural patina and depth that speaks to its age and authenticity. Subtle irregularities and nuances in the finish and workmanship clearly reflect its entirely handmade origin.
