A proper workhorse with classic SG attitude, this 2004 Epiphone G-400 in Cherry is a great example of a left-handed model that’s been played, enjoyed, and still has plenty left to give. Built in Korea during a period often praised for Epiphone’s consistency and quality control, it’s a reassuring detail that adds a bit of extra confidence to the overall feel of the instrument.
It’s got that unmistakable double-cut silhouette and vibrant cherry finish that instantly puts you in familiar territory, whether you’re leaning into classic rock, blues, or something a bit heavier. The finish has aged nicely, retaining a rich depth of colour while showing some honest signs of use. There’s expected playwear throughout along with a couple of small chips and dings around the body, all purely cosmetic and in keeping with a guitar that’s seen real playing time. Nothing that detracts from its overall look, and if anything, it adds a bit of character.
The neck feels comfortable and fast, making it an easy guitar to get along with whether you’re working rhythm parts or pushing into lead territory. It has that slim, accessible feel you’d expect from a G-400, with smooth upper fret access thanks to the classic SG-style design. It’s a lively instrument acoustically, resonant and responsive in the hands.
Plugged in, it delivers a punchy, mid-forward tone with plenty of bite when you dig in. There’s a nice balance here, tight low end, clear mids, and enough top-end edge to cut through a mix without becoming harsh. It handles overdrive particularly well, giving you that familiar crunchy growl while still cleaning up nicely when you roll things back.
Overall, this is a solid, great-playing left-handed SG-style guitar that’s been well used but remains in excellent working order. A dependable choice for anyone after classic looks and tones without the fuss, with the added appeal of Korean manufacture from a well-regarded era.
