Overview: This painfully-pretty "hybrid classical" guitar was built by Chelsea, Vermont's own Michael Tulloch. It's basically a "new, old stock" guitar as he built it in a batch of two with another of the same type but it's been living, cased, at his workshop since then and essentially unplayed.
It uses a Gibson L-00-shaped body with a classical-format neck profile but retains the 14-fret neck joint and instead adds fan bracing, a classical-style rosette, and the usual tie-block-style bridge. It has a very Spanish-influenced headstock shape and the accompanying slotted cut for the tuners which are, by the way, high-end Waverly units. It uses a bolt (almost Taylor-style) neck joint and features gorgeous flamed maple through the back and sides.
The tone is full and rich but also focused -- it would record beautifully as the "woofiness" in the low-end of a typical classical is not there when you dig-in -- it's warm and full but not boomy. The neck handles very much like a normal classical guitar, so there's no re-education necessary to get the most out of it if you're coming from that world.
Fit, finish, cut, and styling are impeccable, as usual.
Repairs included: None -- we checked the setup at the nut and bridge and the fretwork, saddle work, and nut adjustments were all spot-on. It's ready to go!
