Music Man StingRay – 1977
A powerful and iconic 1977 Music Man StingRay finished in black, representing the early, Leo Fender–era of Music Man instruments.
This bass has had a number of player-focused modifications that take an already formidable instrument and push it into serious workhorse territory. An additional DiMarzio pickup has been added alongside a pickup selector switch, greatly expanding the tonal range. The volume pot has been replaced, and a new truss rod bullet has been fitted.
The result is a bass with huge output, clarity, and versatility—equally at home delivering classic StingRay punch or more aggressive, modern tones. It’s loud, responsive, and unapologetically muscular.
A genuine vintage StingRay that’s been set up to perform rather than sit in a case. What a beast it is.
Music Man StingRays from this period are renowned for their build quality, stability, and unmistakable sound. While no longer fully original, this example offers exceptional value for players looking for vintage pedigree with enhanced functionality.
