An undisputed player's favourite, the Firebird has been a constant in the Gibson roster since the early '60s. Its been favoured by some of the world's greatest players, including most famously Johnny Winter, Warren Haynes and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Allen Collins. Its safe to say that the Firebird is one of Gibsons coolest designs!

In the mid 1960s, the original Firebird design transitioned through several different iterations. One of the significant transitions that occurred flipped the headstock to the Non-Reverse shape. Unlike the original Reverse Firebird headstock design, which featured a two-layered headstock with a holly veneer, the new headstock was flat, like the bill of a platypus. Our friends at Gibson are thrilled to be re-issuing this lesser-known edition of the Firebird!

The Gibson Platypus Firebird begins a resonant Mahogany body, which adds a lot of punch and warmth to the overall tone of the guitar. In traditional Firebird fashion, it features a glued-in set-neck crafted from Mahogany which features a comfortable SlimTaper profile, allowing for quick, smooth movements across the guitar. The Rosewood fingerboard features 22 vintage spec frets, a 43.053mm nut width, and acrylic trapezoid inlays. The defining feature of this model is of course the Platypus style headstock, which has been slightly modified to provide straight string pull for less friction and improved tuning stability.

This awesome guitar is powered by a pair of historically accurate Firebird Mini humbucker pickups which feature Alnico V magnets. This setup allows for a bell-like chime when played clean and great rock and blues tones that easily cut through the mix when pushed. Individual volume and tone controls allow you to tailor the sound even further, and of course, the pickguard features the legendary hot-stamped Firebird graphic. A Gibson hardshell case is also included.
