Grafton Acrylic Vintage Alto Saxophone Collector's Item 1950s
This gorgeous vintage Grafton Alto sax from a private collection is available to view by appointment. These injection moulded acrylic saxes were mainly made in the 1950s though some 60s models do exist.
Manufactured in London, designed by Ettore Sommaruga, initially made by the Grafton company and then later by J.Dallas & Sons (as is this model).
Graftons were famously used by Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman and others. This example presented in glorious cream acrylic with metal parts and art deco styling. Original Dallas & Sons hard case supplied.
It has had repairs in the past, ie cracks in the body have been glued up. There is tarnishing to the metal parts and the instrument requires refurbishment to be fully functioning, so is being advertised on a sold as seen basis.
The item has considerable aesthetic value and as such would be an excellent collectable, display item or suitable as a TV, film, theatre or advertisement prop. In fact it has previously appeared in a Southern Comfort ad many years ago, we are trying to find a still photograph of this appearance!
Due to its fragility and lack of working order this item will be view by appointment only and collection only. Please message us via Reverb.
