The Laney Supergroup amps from the late ‘60s/early ‘70s are considered to be very similar to Marshall plexis of the same period but rarer and sought after, not least for their association with Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath.

This 2x12” 50 watt (?) combo dates from early 1972 and is in good original condition. (Going by vintage Laney catalogues I think this is the LC50 illustrated c.1973.) The covering shows a few minor scuffs and stains while the grille cloth has a couple of small tears (which could probably be darned by a skilled needleworker). The original plastic cover has also survived pretty well and is supplied. Internally the construction is exemplary and the board is fitted with the Mullard mustard capacitors typical of most British amps of the time while the transformers are by Partridge. These are considered to be superior to the Drakes or Dagnalls used by Marshall. Valves are Brimar ECC83 in the preamp and Brimar and Mullard EL34 in the power stage. The pair of Celestion G12-H T1217 speakers bear the date code for December 1971, and are fitted with 75Hz Pulsonic cones.

Being the combo version of the amplifier this has the speaker connections via a terminal block on the rear of the chassis. It looks like there are two taps available so I’m assuming these are for 8 and 16 ohms. An easy modification would allow the mounting of speaker jacks to accommodate extension cabinets. Various mains voltages are available on the top of the transformer so the amp is OK for international use.

I am listing this to gauge interest. If you're serious please get in touch at the earliest opportunity so that I can ensure the amp will be available. Collection preferred but delivery options can be discussed.
