Tabla consists of two drums: the Dayan and the Bayan. The Dayan, usually made from seasoned hardwood, is smaller and higher-pitched, while the Bayan, typically crafted from metal or clay, produces a deeper, resonant sound.

The Dayan (Right side tabla - also known as Dagga) and Bayan (Left side tabla - just known as Tabla) of the Tabla are used in synchronization to form a Kayda. Kaydas can be played in any Tala. But in most of the concerts Teental and their Kaydas are played very often.

Pitch of tabla is the scale of sound at which it is tuned. There are totally 12 number of scales. Those are : A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#. Each is at different frequency.

The pitch of tabla can be changed by tightening the skin of it, which in the language of tabla is called pudi. The pudi can be tightened by striking the hammer either on gajara Or on gatte (the cylindrical wooden pieces over which baddhi passes)
