This is a talkback hub and 6 panels custom made for the BBC by CTP Systems Limited. I got hold of it from a BBC auction in Cardiff. It looks like it was built to allow talkback and program sound to be distributed to different areas during an election. It is made up of a base station which has multiple inputs for different program sound and talkback feeds. This connects to the panels via cat 5 cables (not included) which allow the monitoring via speakers built into the panels.
As you can see the base station is in very good order but the panels have lots of the plastic nobs missing and need a bit of cleaning up.
I bought it because it looked so well built and I imagine it cost the bbc a fortune to have it made. I haven't used it for anything work wise but I've connected it up and had a listen to tone through the various inputs etc. . It seems to work generally but I haven't had time to do any extensive testing so please only buy if you are happy that there may be flaws. I think that someone with the right technical skills could adapt this into a useful system but its definitely not for someone who is expecting plug and play. Personally I had ambitions to convert it into 6 commentary boxes by adding in some headphone outputs but I've since realised I'll never get around to it!
I've priced it to reflect that although work may be involved its bit of a bargain considered that one GLENSOUND GS-CU001B/1 MKII COMMENTATOR UNIT For 3 commentators is priced at over 2 grand and this could potentially make 6 units. Anyway you may have other plans. As I said please buy only if you are interested in a project!
