The Yamaha SG-200 is an excellent guitar utilised by several punk bands in the 80’s, this is largely due to its stripped back design and crunchy high output pickups. Gone were the coil tapping features, fancy inlays and premium tonewoods and what was left was a far more affordable guitar which still managed to look and sound brilliant.

The Nato body is fairly lightweight and the chamfered edges mean it sits nicely in a playing position. Open faced humbuckers were deployed in this guitar and they give a great cutting crunchy output, much brighter than a Les Paul for instance which make them far more suitable for certain styles.

The Tune-o-Matic style bridge is set up for great intonation and the tuners are well made and keep tune very well. Overall all this is a great guitar for the cost.
