The Shure Unidyne B Dynamic Microphone 515SA is a high-quality, high impedance (High Z) microphone designed for professional audio applications. With its dynamic transducer type and sleek silver design, it offers crisp and clear sound reproduction. Proudly manufactured in the United States by the renowned brand Shure, this microphone is a reliable choice for musicians, DJs, and podcasters looking for a durable and versatile audio solution.

Basically, it’s a Shure microphone - a name synonymous with a quality product. This particular model is of a high impedance - making it an ideal mic for diatonic harmonica players, particularly blues harp players, looking for that driven to the edge of break up sound. I’ve done research and going on the markings it would seem to be an early model in this line, from 1968 through to 1970, or possibly a year or two into the 70s. So it’s a classic, and an original, with the factory fitted cable and jack plug.

I took a punt on this one, and liked it so much I bought a second one in a somewhat over-enthusiastic moment of thinking, I haven’t seen these before, I’d best get a spare! I have since come to realise that these beauties are pretty much bomb-proof!

It has an on/off slide switch, and a long fixed cable with a 1/4” jack plug. If there’s one thing missing, I’d say it’s a volume control, but the counterpoint to that one small omission is the ease with which it can be held. Cupping to get that great seal is so easy because of its size and shape.

It’s a solidly built piece, it feels good in the hand without being too heavy or uncomfortable.

I am playing it through a Fender Passport 7w solid state amplifier and it sounds incredible! I don’t have a valve amp but I should imagine that it would be equally great.

Comes in its own secure plastic carry case, with protective foam lining. The marks you see on the body of the mic are, I think, old tape put on by a previous owner for whatever reason. Doesn’t affect the playability in any way, but if it “offends” you I’m pretty sure it will come of with some cleaner of some kind.

So come on Blues Harp players, grab yourselves a piece of gear that will blow your audience’s socks off!

If you are local, you can come and try it first if you wish (bring your own harp(s) obviously!)

Thanks for looking - I hope to hear from you soon.
