One of Don Buchla's unfinished projects gets completed and brought to life by Tiptop. The 277t is a digital delay line with an analogue clock, configured in a deliberately simple but patchable format to allow you to create your own more complex delay patches. Supplier's Notes: Introducing the the 277t. In 1972, when tape delays dominated the landscape, Don Buchla was exploring an emerging digital technology for delaying audio. The result was his Model 277. For reasons we still don't know, it was never completed. Around the same time, Eventide was using similar technology to develop their first digital echo effects and the rest is history. What made the 277 special was Don's modular approach: it was designed to interact with the other modules in his 200 synthesizer system, opening up possibilities for creatively patched effects that are beyond simple echos. The 277t is not an effect processor, it is a unit designed to patch effects by the user. Although Don never completed the device, he left behind an unfinished schematic. Main audio signal to one channel of an external mixer 2. Duplicate that signal and send it to the input of channel A of the 277t 3. Take a tap delay output (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or Full) to another channel of the external mixer. 4. List to both original signal and delayed signal. Experiment with different delay rates with the Main Rate Knob. 5. Now take a different tap output and send it to channel B of the 277t 6. Slowly increase the volume of channel B on the 277t to produce a feedback e ect
