Up for sale is a vintage Califone 1450K solid-state phonograph. While originally built as a rugged classroom record player, these units have become a favorite "secret weapon" in indie, rock, and experimental studios as a unique, boutique microphone preamp and lo-fi saturation color box.

By utilizing the front-panel 1/4" Microphone Input, you can bypass the turntable platter entirely and run your dynamic mics or instruments directly into the Califone’s internal solid-state preamp stage.

- **Exploding Transistor Fuzz:** Direct-injecting an electric guitar into the mic input pushes the front end into an aggressive, console-style fuzz distortion reminiscent of classic Neve-style clipping.

- **Gritty Vocal & Room Tracks:** Perfect for routing a vocal or drum room mic through the unit to dial in warm, mid-range harmonic saturation and gritty, tape-like compressed tones using the on-board Volume, Bass, and Treble controls.
