Ibanez 2420 NT 1976 - Natural

1976 Ibanez 2420 NT Natural – Rare One-Year Model – Original Super 70s & Hardshell Case.

This was so hard to find for my vintage collection.

Offered here is a rare Ibanez 2420 NT in Natural finish, made in Japan in May 1976 (serial number E763855).

The 2420 was offered for only one year and appears in the original 1976 Ibanez catalogue alongside its Cherry Wine sister model, the 2420CW. Its unusual model number and limited production make it considerably harder to find than the better-known Ibanez Les Paul-style models of the period.

The guitar features a beautifully figured arched curly-maple top, tortoiseshell-coloured pickguard, maple neck, an ebony rosewood fingerboard with perloid trapezoid inlays, gold hardware and its original gold-covered Ibanez/Maxon Super 70 humbuckers.

The guitar remains in very good vintage condition and displays honest evidence of nearly fifty years of use. There is buckle rash on the back of the body, consisting of finish wear and surface scratching from normal playing. It gives the instrument genuine vintage character without detracting from its striking appearance. The figured top is exceptionally attractive and has only one very small, superficial surface scratch as depicted below the bridge.

The original tuners had to be replaced but this was done with quality Gotoh tuners. The former tuner mounting holes were carefully filled and are visible on the rear of the headstock. This modification is disclosed for accuracy; the Gotoh tuners operate smoothly and provide reliable tuning.

The original toggle switch remains installed. It could be replaced if desired, but I deliberately left it in place to preserve the guitar’s original character and period-correct appearance.

Remarkably, the frets remain in excellent condition for the age of the instrument, with plenty of life left in them. The guitar plays very well and the original Super 70 pickups deliver the open, articulate and powerful vintage tone for which these mid-1970s Ibanez instruments are highly regarded.

The original hardshell case is included.
