40 years ago I was playing Bluegrass music on the road at the Festivals up and down the east coast I had an old Martin D-18 that badly needed a fret job and I didn't have a back up guitar to play.
I brought my guitar to a guy I new Carl Barney in Bridgeport CT he had an old Guild was missing the nut and saddle.
He sent me over to a bench and showed me how the cut the nut and make a saddle, and that was the beginning of learning have to do instrument repair.
I worked with Carl on and off for the next 3 years, and learned just about everything there is to the art of stringed instrument repair
